About Miramar South School

Miramar South School is a full primary situated close to Wellington airport. The student population is multicultural, with a relatively high representation of Samoan and Māori cultures.

The property is well maintained with an attractive entrance way and a landscaped garden area. Learning facilities include spacious external play areas and a hall. Students in years 7 and 8 attend an inner‑city school for programmes in technology.

Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of strategies to support student learning. These are used in their daily literacy and numeracy programmes and include:

  • giving good quality verbal and written feedback
  • encouraging the use of comprehension strategies
  • providing meaningful independent learning activities
  • engaging students in focused small-group teaching
  • sing modelling books effectively to record and revise teaching points
  • planning for the appropriate use of equipment
(as reported by the Education Review Office)
