About Miramar South School
Miramar South School is a full primary situated close to Wellington airport. The student population is multicultural, with a relatively high representation of Samoan and Māori cultures.
The property is well maintained with an attractive entrance way and a landscaped garden area. Learning facilities include spacious external play areas and a hall. Students in years 7 and 8 attend an inner‑city school for programmes in technology.
Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of strategies to support student learning. These are used in their daily literacy and numeracy programmes and include:
- giving good quality verbal and written feedback
- encouraging the use of comprehension strategies
- providing meaningful independent learning activities
- engaging students in focused small-group teaching
- sing modelling books effectively to record and revise teaching points
- planning for the appropriate use of equipment
